We’ve just been immersed in *Vaterland* from 1992 – it sounds like a long time ago, but this feature film is, in fact, alarmingly relevant on so many levels and themes.
The film never made it to cinemas in Germany back then – now I can see why! It won awards abroad…
The ‘Deutsche Kinemathek’ has ensured that the analogue film has now been extensively restored. Special thanks to Masha Matzke & Dr Elisa Jochum and the FFA’s “Filmerbe” funding programme.
And once again, the fantastic team at ‘Basis-Berlin Postproduction’ was by our side during the restoration (thanks to: Drehli, Robert, Andrea and Frieda). It’s particularly wonderful that Nico Hauter, whose colour grading’s has accompanied my films over the last 20 years, has now had the opportunity, through these restorations, to give my very first analogue films their final “look” as well.
As soon as all the work is complete, “Vaterland” (as well as “NIHIL, oder Alle Zeit der Welt”) will be re-released by the Deutsche Kinemathek in a restored version! Perhaps even at your trusted cinema…!?
‘Vaterland’, a film by Uli M Schueppel, starring Olivier Picot, Miroslav Baka, Cristin König, Alexander Hacke, and many others. Cinematography: Ciro Cappellari, Film music: Mick Harvey & Alexander Hacke
